How long does a lash lift last? And how to make it last

A lash lift lasts six to eight weeks. The curl itself is permanent on each lash, but your lashes shed and regrow all the time. As new, straight lashes come in, the lifted look softens until most of the lifted lashes have been replaced.

Why a lash lift doesn’t last forever

Every lash grows, rests and falls out on its own cycle, roughly six to eight weeks for upper lashes. At any moment some lashes are new and some are about to shed. That is why a lift fades gradually rather than all at once, and why most people rebook at about eight weeks.

What makes a lash lift fade faster

  • Water or steam in the first 24 hours. The fixing lotion keeps working after you leave the salon.
  • Oil-based cleansers and makeup removers. Oils soften the lash and loosen the curl.
  • Rubbing your eyes or sleeping face-down in the first nights.
  • Waterproof mascara, which needs harsh removal.
  • A lift that was under-processed in the first place. Certified technicians time each step to your lash type.

Aftercare routine for a longer-lasting lift

First 24 hours

  • Keep lashes dry: no swimming, sauna, steam or long hot showers.
  • No mascara, no eye makeup remover.
  • Try to sleep on your back.

Every day after that

  1. Cleanse with an oil-free foam. InLei® Aloe Vera Mousse is oil-free and made to be safe on lifted lashes and brows.
  2. Brush lashes upward with a clean spoolie in the morning.
  3. Nourish instead of coating. InLei® Fashion Lash holds lashes in place and conditions them with castor oil, panthenol and aloe vera. Use it alone or under mascara.
  4. Support growth between lifts. InLei® Adiutrix is applied morning and evening for 40 to 50 days.

You can buy all of these from the InLei® aftercare range.

Does a Lash Filler® treatment last longer?

The curl lasts about the same time, because it depends on your lash cycle. The difference is in the hair: InLei® Lash Filler® includes nourishing steps that are tested to make lashes 25% thicker and 9% longer after three treatments. Clients who rebook regularly keep building on that. See lash lift vs lash lamination vs Lash Filler®.

When to book your next lift

Book when most of your lashes look straight again, usually at six to eight weeks. Don’t re-lift early: processing lashes that are still curled can over-curl and dry them.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a lash lift last?

Six to eight weeks for most people. The curl lasts as long as each lash does, and lashes renew on a cycle of roughly six to eight weeks.

How soon can I get my lashes wet after a lash lift?

Wait 24 hours. Water, steam and sweat in the first day can relax the curl before it has fully set.

How often can I get a lash lift?

Every six to eight weeks is typical. Lifting more often than that means re-processing lashes that are still curled, which can over-process them.

Can I wear mascara after a lash lift?

Yes, after 24 hours. Choose a mascara that removes easily with an oil-free cleanser, or use a nourishing lash fixer instead.
