Brow lamination: what it is, how long it lasts, results

Brow lamination brushes your eyebrow hairs up and sets them in place for weeks, so brows look fuller, tidier and more even without pencil or gel. It is the most searched brow treatment in South Africa, with about 3,600 searches a month.

Here is how it works, what results to expect and how to keep them.

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination (also called eyebrow lamination or a brow perm) restructures the brow hair so it holds a new direction. Your brow artist:

  1. Cleanses and preps the brows so the lotions work evenly.
  2. Applies a lifting lotion that softens the bonds in the hair.
  3. Combs the hairs into the chosen shape and holds them there.
  4. Applies a fixing lotion that locks the new shape in.
  5. Usually tints the brows and finishes with a nourishing treatment.

With the InLei® Brow Bomber system, the lifting step (Brow Lift 1) stays on for 6 to 12 minutes and the fixing step (Brow Lock 2) for 5 to 8 minutes, timed to the hair’s thickness and porosity. A nourishing eyebrow butter (Brow Bomber 3) completes the treatment.

How long does brow lamination take?

About 45 to 60 minutes, including shaping and tint.

How long does brow lamination last?

Four to six weeks for most people. Fine, fast-growing hair loses its shape sooner, while coarse hair often holds it longer. Most clients rebook every six weeks.

Brow lamination before and after

The biggest change is for brows that are sparse, unruly or growing downward. After lamination the hairs point upward and outward, so gaps look filled and the arch looks lifted. Right after treatment the brows can look very brushed up; they settle within a day or two.

Brow lamination does not add hair. If your brows are very thin, ask your brow artist about combining lamination with tint, or about a growth serum between treatments.

Brow lamination aftercare

  • Keep brows dry and avoid steam for the first 24 hours.
  • Skip oily products on the brows for a few days.
  • Brush them into shape each morning.
  • Exfoliate around the brows gently each week; InLei® Soft Peeling is made for this.
  • Use a nourishing serum such as InLei® Adiutrix to keep hairs healthy between appointments.

Who should avoid brow lamination?

Skip it if you have broken skin, an active rash or recent treatment on the brow area. Tell your brow artist about any allergies, and ask for a patch test if you will also have a tint.

Brow lamination or henna brows?

Lamination changes the shape of the hair. Henna and tint change the colour. Many clients have both. See brow tint vs henna brows to choose the right colour treatment.

Frequently asked questions

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination is a salon treatment that softens the eyebrow hairs and sets them in a brushed-up, fuller shape. It uses two lotions, like a perm for the brows, and usually finishes with a tint and a nourishing treatment.

How long does brow lamination last?

Usually four to six weeks, depending on how fast your brow hair grows and how you care for it. Keeping the brows dry for the first 24 hours helps the shape set.

Is eyebrow lamination the same as brow lamination?

Yes. Eyebrow lamination, brow lamination and brow perm are names for the same treatment.

Is brow lamination bad for your brows?

Done correctly with a professional system it should not harm healthy brows. Good systems time each lotion to the hair type and add a nourishing step. InLei® Brow Bomber, for example, finishes with a nourishing brow butter.

Can I have brow lamination and a tint at the same time?

Yes, and most salons recommend it. The tint is applied after lamination and makes the new shape look fuller and more defined.
